Microsoft Copilot also comes to Photos, but features are limited

by Brad

Copilot is also coming to Microsoft Photos, the gallery app that comes pre-installed in Windows. The Redmond giant has released an update in the past few hours, but without publicizing it too much – perhaps because it is not exactly the most mind-blowing use of generative artificial intelligence seen so far.

According to one of the most active observers of Microsoft’s activities currently on the scene, known on X/Twitter by the handle @PhantomOfEarth, it is possible to request the chatbot based on OpenAI’s technology to set an image as the background of the operating system, to create or display presentations and… That’s more or less enough.

The feature is available starting with version 2024.11030.22001.0 of the Photos app; is deactivated by default, you have to go to the plugins section of Copilot, choose the Photos section and activate it. In fact, we’re not entirely sure how many people have access to the new technology – it could be a partial roll-out or a gradual roll-out. Of course, for us Europeans there is no question of this, since for legal reasons the virtual assistant is not accessible at all.

In any case, the same source notes that Microsoft has also made some changes to the settings section dedicated to OneDrive account integration. To update Photos, simply open the Microsoft Store, go to the Library section, and press the Get Updates button.
