Green lines on the displays of some Galaxy smartphones after the recent update

by Brad

It seems that some smartphone models in the Samsung Galaxy line are suffering from OLED display issues. This annoying inconvenience, which has already emerged on other occasions in the past, does not seem to have found a definitive solution. The spread of the problem seems to be linked to the latest updates, as can be seen from the publications on social media that are pouring in these hours.

An unknown number of Galaxy users complain about the appearance of green or pink lines on their OLED screens after installing a software update. The problem doesn’t just affect a few specific devices or models, as it ranges from the Galaxy A73, Galaxy M21, Galaxy M52, the Galaxy S21 series (including the FE), the Galaxy S22 series, and even the Galaxy Z Flip 3 all seem to be united by this flaw. According to reports, the anomaly would have manifested itself after the installation of One UI 6.0 or the April 2024 security update.

Since this is an issue that emerged after an update, Sammobile reports that some users have adopted the strategy of recording a video while installing the new update. These records, submitted to after-sales service centers, aim to prove that the damage was not caused by accidental bumps or drops.

Display malfunction has always been a worrying problem, as OLED panels are among the most expensive components of a smartphone, reaching almost half the selling price of the device. Despite numerous reports, Samsung does not yet seem to have issued any official communication to service centers for the free replacement of defective displays.

It’s not clear if all markets are affected or if the issue mainly affects certain distributions, but it is clear that while waiting for communications from the company, it would be advisable to turn off automatic updates in the affected models. At the moment in Italy there are no reports and our smartphones, regularly updated, do not show the problem, but we will update you with further details as soon as Samsung pronounces on the matter
